Monika Herceg

Monika Herceg, born in 1990 in Sisak, Croatia, is a poet, playwright, and feminist activist based in Zagreb. In 2017, she was awarded the Goran Prize for the manuscript of her debut poetry collection “Početne coordinate”, which was published the following year and received multiple awards. The English translation by Marina Veverec, titled “Initial Coordinates” (Sandorf Passage), was published in 2022. Her second collection, “Lovostaj” (Jesenski i Turk, 2019), was translated into German by Ivana Pajić and published as “Jagdverbot” (eta Verlag, 2023). Among other honors, Monika Herceg was named a European Poet of Freedom for this work. Her third poetry collection, “Vrijeme prije jezika” (Fraktura), followed in 2020. For her activist work, Monika Herceg was awarded the Fierce Woman Award in 2021, and in 2024, she received the Central European Initiative Award for Young Authors.
