Linguistic resonances and cultural frictions in German-Chinese poetry translation - a conversation among translators
Translation is more than linguistic transfer - it means mediating between cultures and renegotiating meanings. Poetry in particular requires a sensitive feel for form, context and interpretation. Precisely because poetry is often considered almost untranslatable, its translation reveals a particular strength: it opens up spaces for resonance, for new perspectives and poetic transformation.
In this discussion, translators from the German-Chinese workshop will reflect on key experiences: linguistic mediation, cultural attribution, technical hurdles and individual approaches. The event understands poetic translation as a practice of understanding in a multilingual world.
*The translators will speak in German, individual authors in Chinese. A bilingual handout (German/Chinese) will be provided.
